Excel: Conditional Formatting - Practical 1

 


 

In this practical we are going to look at Conditional Formatting in Excel. 

The basic formatting of data such as cell formatting and character formatting can be done easily. However when you want to apply formats based on a criteria, that will take huge amount of your valuable time, if you try to do it manually. 

Excel come to save you in such situations by providing robust options to apply formatting based on conditions and criteria.

Let's dive into some basic conditional formatting questions to have a solid understanding about this component.

  1. Use a rule to highlight cells in Science, ICT, History, or Geography if the score is greater than 75. Change the fill colour of such cells to be red and font colour to white.

  2. Apply a conditional formatting rule to highlight students who have a Science score less than 50. Change the fill colour of such cells to yellow.

  3. Create a rule that highlights cells in History and Geography if the scores are the same for a student. Change the font style to bold and font colour to red.

  4. Set up conditional formatting to highlight the student rows where the total of Science, ICT, History, and Geography exceeds 350. Change the fill colour of such cells to be Green and text to be bold.

  5. Apply a rule that highlights students who scored 75 or more in both ICT and History. Change such cells to be filled with black and white text.

  6. Use a conditional formatting rule to highlight the top 3 highest scores in Geography.
